First Monday in October

It’s now the first Monday in October here at “the seat of government,” Washington, DC. Section 2 of Title 28 of the United States Code tells me that means the start of a new United States Supreme Court Term today.

      Happy October Term 2009, everyone.

    2. Mike McDougal says:

What sort of party is appropriate?

    3. Orin Kerr says:

What sort of party is appropriate?

Either Petitioner or Respondent is fine.

    4. Orin Kerr says:

And don’t forget the song to sing, to the tune of “take me out to the ball game”:

Take me out to the law game
Take me out to the Court,
      Grant some petitions for certiorari
I don’t care if the opinions are scary!
Let me root, root, root for respondent,
If he doesn’t win activism’s to blame,
For it’s 3, 4, 5 votes to win at the Supreme Court game.

    5. Soronel Haetir says:

Mike McDougal: What sort of party is appropriate?

Wouldn’t that be a black robe formal?

    6. Careless says:

Any comments on Jones v. Harris Associates?

    7. CvMe says:

      Josh,

That’s the same seating arrangement they took when they heard Citizen’s United on Sept. 9.

What’s with Sotomayor’s lobster napkin in the official portrait? The frilly doily look works okay on Ginsburg, because she is as dainty as a candy dish filled with those sort of chalky mints that your grandmother has that dissolve in your mouth without chewing, but it just doesn’t fit Sotomayor. Her individual portrait looks better. Perhaps she’ll appear on “What Not To Wear: SCOTUS edition.”

    8. GM Roper says:

Orin Kerr: “And don’t forget the song to sing, to the tune of “take me out to the ball game”

This will doublessly turn into an earworm and I’ll be singing it all day. Curse you Orin Kerr. On the other hand, it is funny as hell!

    9. Oren says:

A link for Eugene (he probably doesn’t read this threads). Good news from our neighbors up north, eh?
