Orin, thanks for the link. A nice chance to hear Judge Posner talk about a wide variety of subjects — there is a charmingly gloomy thread that seems to hold together a number of the segments. It casts his pragmatism in an attractively (to me) pessimistic light.

Sheesh, his main views are motivated by fear, whether its a fear of terrorism or global warming.
And he mentions knowing the consequences of policies before they are undertaken. Does he realize that higher taxes mean a weaker, slower-growing economy, resulting in more poverty and less job creation?
