“Is College Censorship Destroying Our Society’s ‘Sophistication Machine’?”

No. I agree that there are misguided administrators who pursue silly policies and sometimes get away with them, but I don’t see the world coming to an end. Or that it’s any worse today than before.

Looking back at the “good old days” , one could get expelled for wearing the wrong color tie, or being outside after midnight. Being prevented from passing out fake stimulus dollars (to pick one of his examples) won’t ruin the intellect of the student body, although it is is overreaching on the part of the college.

No, sophistry seems to be thriving as much as ever.

While I certainly remember some of the uglier political moments of the 1990s, the unreflective, hyper-partisan mentality currently gripping our country makes the ’90s look downright harmonious.

      The 1990s? I guess he doesn’t remember the 1960s.

I studied lot of things in college. “Sophistication” I learned in the real world.

I did a spot check of one of the “many” incidents of collegiate censorship that is destroying the nation. His best case seems to be this. If this is the worst miscarriage of justice in the name of PC committed on a US campus in the past few years, we are in very good shape. (Hint: nobody was hurt.)

If you work on a college campus, you know this is crap. Any campus I’ve been to is crawling with campus Republicans, libertarians, unconditional supporters of all Israeli and settler behavior, Laffer curvers, you name it. If you want to know what suppression of ideas looks like, try Bob Jones U.

If physical harm is the standard by which colleges’ content-based speech restrictions are to be judged, then we have already lost.

Too bad I was a shy student in college or I missed speech codes by just a few years. It’s not as if I didn’t have my encounters with lefty types though.
