Brookings Event on Reforming the Electronic Communications Privacy Act

For those in the DC area who love ECPA — and isn’t that most of you? — the Brookings Institute will host an event on Tuesday, May 17th, on reforming the Electronic Communications Privacy Act. Ben Wittes will introduce the event, and then I’m going to give a summary lecture — labeled, much too pretentiously, a “keynote address” — that explains the history and the developments of the statute and relevant Fourth Amendment precedents. Then the event will turn to a terrific panel, which is especially notable because government BigWigs have agreed to participate. The panelists:

James A. Baker
Associate Deputy Attorney General
U.S. Department of Justice

Valerie E. Caproni
General Counsel, Office of the General Counsel
Federal Bureau of Investigation

James Dempsey
Vice President for Public Policy
Center for Democracy and Technology

Albert Gidari, Jr.
Partner
Perkins Coie LLP

If you’re an ECPA nerd, this event will be the place to be.
