The Deep Thoughts of Oliver Wendell Holmes

I’ve blogged before about some of my favorite non-judicial quotes by Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. Over at the Faculty Lounge, Alfred Brophy unearths the following line Holmes wrote in a letter to Felix Frankfurter in September 1913:

We become persons by the increase of negations — of finite characteristics — but there is a cat walking over this as I write and I must stop for it gives me no chance.
