It is nice to know that some bureaucrats actually listen and do the right thing.
But on the other hand I wonder how much proof of kinship if any they required and even if they did, what if another or a closer relative shows up next week and says, hey I should have gotten that.
I mean they took his life, you think they'll try to keep his medals too?
I know you don't mean that the current generation in Germany took his life, although that's what you wrote.
Why assign bureaucratic efficiency to guilt or other shady reasons? How long would it take, and how many acts of Congress, before such a simple, righteous request was granted by the American National Archives or (a more accurate simile) any state archive?
