Brief Blogging Hiatus:

I will have a hopefully brief blogging hiatus while I recover from ankle surgery over the next few days. It's a fairly simple operation, but may nonetheless prevent me from blogging for awhile. Back next week, I hope!

Best wishes for a successful operation (and for really good drugs befitting a true libertarian).

I join the others in wishing you a speedy recovery. Though once the meds wear off and are no longer necessary--and you are going out of your mind with boredom, remember that blogging is just a few keystrokes away.

Is the surgery being done in VA, MD, or DC? Hopefully, of course, you have put yourself in the hands of competent professionals and all will go well. You should know, though, that if any injury is suffered on account of negligence, VA and MD cap the potential recovery, and juries in Northern VA and Montgomery County (MD) are known to be considerably less generous than in DC. I don't suggest the tort remedies in different locales should be the first consideration when choosing where and from whom to seek medical care, but maybe it is not altogether irrelevent. (If emoticons were available here, I would punctuate this with one of those big cheesy smiles.)

What do libertarians think about our tort system, especially as it relates to recovery for injuries caused by professional negligence? Are libertarians closer to the P camp or the D camp with respect to "tort reform" initiatives (what Ps often call "tort deform"), or neither?

I second Dave N in the proposition that sitting on your ass after ankle surgery would give you nothing better to do than sit on your ass and blog.

A good time to catch up on some reading. May I suggest Human Action or Democracy: The God that failed.

Best wishes.
