I did this same test some weeks back on my least-trafficked web site (go look for 'antidiselephantitis'), and it took nearly 24 hours to show up on Google. On a different web site that gets much more traffic, a personal name that I made up (to disguise someone's identity) showed up on Google within an hour or so. ..bruce.. 7.3.2008 8:25am (link) M. Simon (mail) (www): Bruce is correct. Except it is not so much traffic as Google ranking although traffic has a bearing. It also helps to be a blogspot site. They get extra points. 7.3.2008 8:34am (link) asdf: FYI, the way this works is that their crawler is now quite sophisticated, not just a "dumb" breadth-first-searcher by any means. It is basically predicting the next update time from a bunch of parameters, including: 1) past update history of the page 2) update history of linked pages 3) update history of similar pages etc. Pages are likely put into a modified priority queue where time for next visit is based on: 1) predicted next time of updated 2) importance of the page 3) diff vs. last update etc. With this algorithm, highly trafficked blogs will get scanned and downloaded several times a day, as will news sites. 7.3.2008 9:13am (link) Jacob Berlove: I was wondering about the time change also. It's slower if your blog is unpopular and has few inbound links. I've sometimes compared how quickly Google caches my blog compared to other blogs. Sometimes I gloat.
