Wolfe and Gazzaniga on Neuroscience:

If you read "I Am Charlotte Simmons" you know that Tom Wolfe has an ongoing interest in evolutionary psychology and neuroscience. In that book he mentions a book by Mike Gazzaniga, a friend of mine and leading neuroscientists. Here is a cool conversation between the two of them on the general topic. A transcript of the discussion is here (or at least it is represented as such--from what I can tell the video and transcript don't really match up completely).

It would be really nice if the findings of neuroscience were applied to the drug laws.

I have been banging this drum for a number of years and can't seem to get any significant interest. Not even ant-prohibitionists are interested.

Our laws are based on the idea that drugs cause addiction. It ain't so.

It would be nice if any findings, of any sort, were applied to the drug laws. Instead they seem to be informed by the inertia of ancient politics.
