The Senate passed a 6-month extension of the expiring provisions of the Patriot Act today, by voice vote. The White House is on board — not enthusiastically, to put it mildly, but on board — and the House will pick up the issue ASAP.
It’s a sensible move, I think. Congress will be having hearings on the NSA surveillance issues soon, and it makes sense to consider all of the FISA-related issues together.
