To find myself watching the Michael Crichton 1995 movie, Congo, with Beloved Wife – which is not a bad movie and I’m a fan of the late MC, may he rest in peace, but – contemplate my shock and dismay to see the film describe the laboratory as being at Berkeley, and then all the shots are of … UCLA! The injustice and the horror. Also indignation. The filmmakers apparently wanted to have the public cachet of Berkeley but the glorious beauty of UCLA rather than the, uh, scruffiness of Cal. (Note, in case it wasn’t clear … UCLA ’83. Just like the Chief Conspirator, for the record.)
