FIRE — the top defender of university student free speech rights — is looking for a new Justice Robert H. Jackson Legal Fellow, for a two-year term:
Working closely with FIRE’s President and Director of Legal and Public Advocacy, Jackson Fellows produce legal scholarship on issues central to FIRE’s mission of protecting core constitutional liberties on campus — freedom of speech, due process rights, freedom of assembly, freedom of conscience, academic freedom, and more.
Additionally, Jackson Fellows work with staff and outside attorneys on FIRE’s Speech Codes Litigation Project; author written works for FIRE’s popular blog, The Torch; assist with research and writing opinion pieces, editorials, or other works that will appear in popular media; and fulfill specific mission-oriented legal research requests from other FIRE staff members….
This position will be based in FIRE’s central office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Little to no travel is projected for this position; however, some opportunities for travel to conferences or other events may occur. Work is projected to take place during normal business hours, although evening and weekend work may be occasionally necessary depending on business needs and other factors.
The anticipated start date for this position will be September 2011; a more specific start date is negotiable….
Applicants must be law school graduates or current law students with an expected graduation date of June 2011 or earlier. Membership in a state bar is not required.
