I’ve just received a copy of the new book by Justice Stevens, Five Chiefs: A Supreme Court Memoir. Based on a quick skim, it’s surprisingly interesting. Stevens offers his opinions on lots of cases as well as his fellow Justices, both past and present, and he includes many “behind the scenes” stories from his time at the Court. So far I haven’t seen any shocking revelations. And I don’t know if the book will be of interest outside the law-nerd set. But the book looks like a more interesting read for us law nerds than some of the other recent Supreme Court memoirs. The closest comparison is probably to Rehnquist’s The Supreme Court, which also had some interesting commentary.
