The American Constitution Society will be holding its annual student symposium in DC on June 14-16. Visit the official convention website for an up-to-date schedule, panel topics and confirmed speakers. It is an impressive list, including Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, and VC co-conspirator Jon Adler. The confirmed speakers list is here. The convention will offer continuing legal education (CLE) credit through a variety of exciting and unique panel discussions and plenary sessions. Students may apply for scholarships here.
Having spoken at several symposia in the past (but not this year), I can testify personally that this is a high quality and stimulating program for students (or lawyers) who consider themselves liberal or progressive. Plenary sessions typically have one participant who provides a contrasting view. This symposium features a conversation on federalism between Judges Stephen Reinhardt and Alex Kozinski of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Here is last year’s panel on the challenge to the ACA on which I participated.
