Changes to the Democratic Party platform regarding the status of Jerusalem and the mention of God may have received the most attention, but there are other platform changes that should be of greater concern to libertarians. As Adam Serwer documents at Mother Jones, the 2012 Democratic Party platform largely abandons the commitment to civil liberties contained in the 2008 platform. As Serwer ruefully concludes, the 2012 platform shows how “the Democratic Party has given up on its 2008 promises to roll back the national security state that emerged and expanded in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.”
