I thought it was a good speech, and pretty well received. It was marred a bit by Obama’s expression of annoyance, which he repeated several times in different ways, that he was “misunderstood” on Thursday. Could very well be true, but if you, as president, make remarks that are widely misunderstood, it’s the fault of you and your speechwriters. There are two ways to deal with this: one is to be at least somewhat self-effacing, and the other is to blame those who you think misinterpreted you, including members of your audience. It doesn’t seem wise for Obama to choose the latter route.
