Sonny Rollins Trio Plays "Weaver of Dreams":
Sonny Rollins has been one of the most influential jazz saxophonists, and unlike many of the greats of the 1950s, he's still very much around and playing. There's a lot of Sonny Rollins on YouTube, and here's a favorite clip from a 1959 concert leading a trio with bass and drums (Henry Grimes and Pete LaRoca). Rollins recorded a ton of stuff in this period, so picking a favorite for those interested in hearing more is pretty hard. Saxophone Colossus is widely considered the greatest Rollins album, so that's probably the best place to start. My personal favorite is probably The Bridge from 1962. If you like the trio format of this YouTube clip, check out A Night at the Village Vanguard from 1957.
