A Day Without Connectivity:
Do you need a day "free of screens, bells and beeps"? Mark Bittman reports on his effort to take one.

When I lived in Philadelphia Verizon made sure I had more days without connectivity than I cared for.

I have one every week. It's called Shabbat.

One note that might help those in these circumstances- there's a reason, even beyond prohibitions on driving, that observant Jews tend to live close to one another. Being close to friends and/or family, especially if they're doing the same thing, makes it far easier to achieve a separation from electronics. I'm willing to bet that if, say, a group of 5 neighbors all agreed to go in this together, to have lunch and dinner with one another, the "experiment" would be far easier than going it alone.
